Beautiful and deadly
The most dangerous of the central coast
Wirings of seaweed and marine cross currents
An open funnel to the high seas
Full of rocks, stones, crosses, and memorial stones
They all drowned
A sign says there are 1953 of them so far
The current swallows them and hides them in sea caves
Then in winter he returns them amputated
No eyes, no tongue, no lips
It used to be called Hangaroa Beach
Today it is called Los Ahogados Beach
There are testimonies that affirm that at night they haunt
That voices are heard and desperate specters are seen passing by
There are lovers that died looking at the sunset
Sitting on the nearby rocks
And they couldn’t do anything, the current carried them away, they died
For these reasons, never bathe on Los Ahogados Beach
Being knee-deep in water is enough
So that the force of the wave that always returns to its sack
Drags you forever to the depths of the sea
And there’s nothing you will be able to do, just flail until the end.
